There are many types of projectors available at major electronic retailers suh as Curcuit City and Best Buy. Some are more portable for office presentations and some are larger but better quality to project those HD movies in your home theather. It is possible for the multimedia projector to serve as your sole projection television. Some buy a screen to project onto and some just project onto a white painted wall. Others project outside onto the side of a house, garage door, or screen.

There are a few things to consider when buying a projection television or multimedia projector. First of all, lumens describe the brightness of the projector. This is more important if you plan on using the projection television in a bright room or during the day. There are LCD projectors using the liquid crystal technology, and DLP projectors using tiny mirrors. There are pros and cons to each. Next look at the resolution. SVGA is the lowest at 800x600, followed by XGA 1024x767, and the highest SXGA 1200x1000. Watching movies and video games may not be affected by the resolution especially if you are just projecting a movied or program that is on TV. However, powerpoint presentaions with small symbols will look better on a higher resolution multimedia projector. Finally, look at the aspect ratio, either 4;3 or 16:9. This affects how wide the picture looks and some of the detail depending on the quality of the broadcast. There are many brands of projection television including Sharp, Optoma, In Focus, Sanyo and Dell. Some brands are only available online and others at electronic retailers such as BestBuy and CurcuitCity.
